BlackBerry entered the top five agricultural export of Serbia to the EU
Last year BlackBerry was ranked one of the top five agricultural export of Serbia to the EU, second only to corn, raspberries, sugar and soybean oil.
Serbia produces nearly 30,000 tons of blackberries per year, ranks first in Europe and in the world second only to the United States and Mexico.
As with raspberries, in Europe the main competitor of Serbia is Poland, which for the past year because of the drought has been very bad. In Serbia, raspberries are mainly grown in Macve, Pomoravlje, Podrinje, Cacanska and podkopaevskiy the edges. Because of rising purchase prices, which reached 100-110 dinars per kilogram (1 Euro Dinar 123), the BlackBerry is increasingly popular among Serbian farmers.
Most popular in Serbia variety BlackBerry "Cacanska bestra", its berries are very large and soft, but there is a disadvantage – when you freeze the color of the berries change from black to red, which sometimes is not liked by the consumers. So, most likely, to increase sales to the Serbian farmers will have to switch to other varieties. Problems in Serbia and with the processing industry, so that almost 100% of blackberries are exported in frozen form, not in the form of a much more expensive juices, jams and purees.
