The forecast harvest of apples and pears in the southern hemisphere
On 5 February in Berlin at the Fruit Logistica exhibition is held a meeting of members of the world Association of producers of apples and pears (World Apple and Pear Association, WAPA).
The meeting was attended by representatives of countries producers and exporters of apples and pears. During the event they discussed the forecast of the harvest in the southern hemisphere and the final results of the harvest in the Northern hemisphere, as well as other issues relevant to Association members.
In Berlin, WAPA announced consolidated forecast harvest of apples and pears in the southern hemisphere, formed according to industry associations of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa.
According to these estimates, the harvest of apples and pears in the southern hemisphere in 2016 will be 5 298 000 tonnes and 1 378 000 tonnes, respectively.
Thus, it is expected that the crop of apples will grow by 2% in comparison with the year 2015 as the volume of exports of this fruit, on the contrary will grow by 6% to 1 630 382 tons.
The crop of pears will be reduced by 8% compared to the harvest in 2015, and the reduction in exports is 1% to 684 583 tons.
