New strawberry shows the results promised
Interest in the new variety of strawberry, which promises excellent flavor, very early harvest and low carbon footprint was reported to be growing among Spanish manufacturers.
Designed by the famous Italian group Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti (CIV), Flavia variety has high resistance to diseases, including powdery mildew and is touted as the perfect strawberry, for both conventional and organic production. It is obvious that especially well it manages to "tired" soils without the need for fumigation.
According to CIV, the main players in the Spanish berries business plan to conduct test planting in 2017, after the success of recent tests.
The group, of course, well established as a developer of varieties that are suitable for retailers around the world, like Cleary, a key player in the Northern and Central European market the strawberry among the recent success stories.
Other known varieties of CIV in recent years include jolie, who, as they say, is highly regarded in Belgium, and the Murano, which became a model strain for supermarket chain Sainsbury's (UK), thanks to a good combination of taste and color.
