Marisol: strawberries with a high Brix value
With 800 grams per plant (data of elections-2015), high Brix (sugar content) and durable skins, the variety of strawberry Marisol is a candidate applying for an important role in the cultivation of strawberries in the Central South. A variety raised by the company Genetics from Nova Siri Nova Siri (Matera, Italy), already a famous variety of strawberry Melissa. In 2016, the area under Marisol grew, thanks to a productive and organoleptic characteristics of the variety.
"We are satisfied with what results shows Marisol" explains Mario e Marco Magnani from Mia Sas – company representative and the Italian agent on behalf Viveros California SL. "We have all the information that the producers were satisfied with the results."
Here are some numbers: in 2015, the production lasted from February to may, an average of one plant were collected 37 grams of strawberries in February, 240 in March, in April, 255 and 260 in may. It should also be noted the level of 11.6 Brix in February, March and 9.5 to 9.0 in the coming months. The stable hardness of 0.9 kg/sq. cm to 0.6, while the average weight of berries was in the range from 20 to 28 grams. The color changed from red-orange to bright red in February and bright red from March to may. The skins are always very durable.
Of technical map, you can see that Marisol ' is a vigorous cultivar, semi-early, with a long conical berry, bright red color, which becomes darker at high temperatures.
High Brix and firmness of the berries allow them to be transported even over long distances. High performance, on average, with the same organoleptic characteristics. The quality is better in the case that does not apply excessive amounts of nitrogen fertilizers and hormones".
Breeders have paid much attention to the selection of parents resistant to root system diseases, manifested in hard and tired soils with a high infectious background. So Marisol can be considered as a cultivar suitable for organic production, are not very sensitive to the vascular fungal diseases and with easy adaptability to various soil types.
On the basis of the results obtained in these early years of production experience, Marisol is one of the few varieties that combines excellent quality with high yield.
